Job Description

Position Overview

Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Controller with strong technical accounting expertise and leadership experience overseeing teams of 5 or more. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Big 4 public accounting, and will support the Controller in driving accurate, compliant accounting operations and improving processes within a fast-growing, scaling environment.

Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Month-End Close

  • Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules-including complex areas such as equity and stock-based compensation.
  • Strengthen accounting workflows, internal controls, and documentation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and scalability.

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP across all accounting areas.
  • Review financial statements for completeness and reasonableness; investigate and explain key variances.
  • Prepare or review technical accounting documentation; support internal and external audits.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide oversight, coaching, and development for a team of 5+ accounting professionals.
  • Set expectations, guide technical skill-building, and foster a collaborative, accountable team culture.
  • Ensure effective delegation, cross-training, and balanced workloads.

Controller Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key partner to the Controller on priority initiatives and strategic accounting matters.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, operations, HR, and other departments to resolve issues and support business needs.
  • Support system enhancements, automation efforts, and ERP-related projects-particularly in a fast-paced, scaling environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance; Master's and CPA preferred.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience required (2-4+ years).
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
  • Experience working in rapid-growth or scaling environments, with the ability to build and adapt processes as the business evolves.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, including exposure to complex accounting areas.

Additional Details

Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000 per year
